In this project I was tasked with creating an advertisement for a "local cultural institute" of my own choosing. After much pondering and research I came to the conclusion that the best institute for me would be the "Game Over" video game cafe located in Portsmouth. Game Over is a retro themed gaming cafe which features classic games ranging from Pong to modern masterpieces such as Minecraft. The retro theme of the cafe, and its focus on gamer culture inspired me to select this institution. It's themes spoke to me and motivated me to apply the aesthetics not only to my final outcomes but my research, which features a consistent retro design.  

My digital outcome features original pixel art which depicts the cafe as a dungeon (a parody on the basement setting of Game Over). This was my first proper venture into pixel are.  While the piece has good elements, it definitely shows my amateur level of skill with the art form.  It has its strengths but its weaknesses show a need to improve, I plan on doing much more pixel art in future as I find is an extremely unique design aesthetic, and this project allowed me to discover it. 

These two pieces demonstrate the design aesthetic my sketchbook featured. Mundane task were spiced up with retro themed characters and backgrounds, even the typography had a retro design using the "Press Start" typeface. In future I would love to put this much effort into my book as it was the most fun I've had design my sketchbooks layout.
